On Wednesday, March 8th in honor of International Women’s Day, women around the world are planning to strike from paid and un-paid labor to raise awareness to securing a living wage, guaranteeing basic protections for workers, ending discrimination in the workplace, and protecting civil rights and reproductive choice—and to make sure they are accessible to all women. Organizers are encouraging women to 1.) refrain from work—both paid and unpaid. 2.) Refrain from shopping with exceptions for local small businesses and women-owned businesses and 3.) by wearing red in solidarity. While the purpose of the women's strike comes from a desire for positive change, abstaining from work is not obtainable for all women. Women account for nearly two-thirds of minimum-wage workers in the US, and women of color account for more than half of those earning minimum wage or less.
As a woman owner of small business in our great bustling city of Lakewood, I decided to compile a list of women owned brick & mortar businesses with the help of other women in Lakewood. In honor of International Women’s Day, we encourage you to support these hard working women of our community.
Lakewood is a beautiful community to live and conduct business in. We are proud to call Lakewood our home.

Cheers,
